Leishman stain, also known as Leishman’s stain, is used in microscopy for staining blood smears. It is generally used to differentiate between and identify white blood cells, malaria parasites, and trypanosomas. It consists of a mixture of eosin (an acidic stain), and methylene blue (a basic stain) in alcohol and is usually diluted and buffered before use. It stains the different componentsof blood in a range of shades between red and blue.
