The Apex Edition Package
For the 2022 model year, the Corolla Apex Edition Package is available on either the SE or XSE grade. This package minimizes the inherent potential of the sedan’s high-strength TNGA-C platform, multilink rear suspension, and 169-horsepower 2.0-litre Dynamic Force Engine. It also features a factory custom body package with a sport-tuned exhaust system that is unique to the Apex Edition. The engine produces 169 peak horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 151 lb-ft peak torque at 4,800 rpm.
For optimum performance, the Apex Edition is equipped with the Dynamic Shift CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) that offers 10-speed Sequential Shiftmatic steps, Sport Mode, and paddle shifters.
This is good news for drivers who love going faster with their sedan, Toyota is equipping a small number of SE grade units with a 6-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission. The 6-speed intelligent Transmission (6 iMT) automatically adjusts the engine revs when changing gears to ensure smooth shifting that makes any driver feel like a stick shift pro, this is brought about with the help of the downshift rev-matching control.
Unique coil springs lower the vehicle by 0.6 inches while increased spring rate reduces vehicle roll angle and provides flatter cornering and steering response. Specially tuned shocks with internal rebound springs provide increased damping force that controls vertical and roll movement. Unique solid stabilizer bars with increased rigidity help to decrease vehicle roll angle while improving overall agility. Additionally, new jounce bumpers ensure the lowered ride height doesn’t hinder ride quality. All combined Apex Edition suspension changes increase roll stiffness by 47% in the front and 33% in the rear.
This edition features 18-inch flow-formed cast-aluminum wheels that are finished in gloss black appearance. The wheels are designed to aid in brake cooling while offering a mass reduction of 2.2 lbs per wheel.

The 2022 Apex Edition will be available in three exterior color options including exclusive Cement with Black Sand Pearl roof, White with Black Sand Pearl roof, and Black Sand Pearl. It is available with black mirror caps across all Apex trims. . The triple J-shaped clearance lamps with LED lights along with LED turn signals give the SE and XSE grades an audacious look upfront, while LED taillamps with smoked outer light lenses to create a unique lighting signature in back.
The interior of the Corolla SE Apex features a premium fabric upholstery while the XSE Apex Edition has black SofTex-trimmed fabric upholstery. Standard on the XSE Apex Edition includes heated front seats, including an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support.
The power is delivered by the 2.0-liter Dynamic Force Engine. The engine derives its power from a high-compression Toyota D4-S fuel injection and secondary port injectors, high-speed combustion, VVT-iE intelligent variable valve-timing on the intake side, and VVT-I on the exhaust system. The VVT-iE makes use of an electric motor instead of oil pressure to control the variable valve timing.
2022 Toyota Corolla Nightshade Edition
The 2022 Corolla Nightshade Edition is making a comeback for the 2022 model year on the SE grade. It will feature bold accents garnishing the customer’s choice of Black Sand Pearl, Classic Silver Metallic, or White exteriors. Other notable features include blacked-out 18-inch alloy wheels, along with black bumpers, front grille surround, mirror caps, side rockers, door handles, rear spoiler, shark fin antenna, and exterior badges that give the Corolla Nightshade edition a factory-custom look.
The engine
Standard on the Nightshade Edition is the 2.0-liter Dynamic Force Engine that produces 169-horsepower with a choice between the Dynamic Shift CVT or 6-speed iMT.
Big wheels
For the 2022 model year, the Corolla is debuting with multi-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels as standard on the SE and XSE grades. The LE Hybrid rides on 15-inch alloy wheels with covers, while the LE grades get 16-inch steel wheels with covers. The XLE grade gets 16-inch alloy wheels with three-dimensional twisted spokes.
The cabin
The interior features a neat instrument panel that lends an open, harmonious feeling. At the center of the instrument panel sits a high-resolution 8-inch multimedia touchscreen on all grades except the L grade, which gets a 7-inch multimedia touchscreen.
The center stack screen provides access to vehicle settings, audio controls, navigation, and audio multimedia. It flows into a wider console, with an armrest that’s nearly 0.8-inch longer than in the previous model, for greater comfort.
The cabin features high gloss materials paired with matte elements- silver accents with Piano Black and Available contrasting stitching to accentuate a premium look and feel.
For a better feel, the 2022 Corolla gives users the feel of luxury with available ambient lighting that illuminates the front door trim, console tray, and front cupholder. The tray can hold items such as a smartphone or wallet, or when so equipped, houses the optional Qi wireless device charging pad.
Digital tools
The 2022 Corolla Sedan comes standard with a 4.2-inch film transistor (TFT) Multi-Information Display (MID) that is located between the high-grade tachometer and speedometer. Also available is a 7-inch MID. This allows the driver to switch between Digital and Analogue displays,
Enough space and less noise
The 2022 Sedan will feature a larger seating space coupled with less noise. Toyota positioned the driver’s hip point 0.91-inch lower and 1.57-inches further to yield an optimized driving position.
The front seats of the SE and XSE grades debut a new design featuring a unique shape with a headrest that nestles into the shoulder area, while the LE and XLE grades offer a seatback with a new U-shaped pattern. This major departure from a conventional square seatback design creates a sense of youthful, sporty appeal while improving comfort. The SE and XSE grades’ front seats offer thin, yet broad shoulder supports, evocative of a competition bucket seat, which overlap solid and thick side bolsters to achieve enhanced holding performance.
Seating materials include standard cloth or, in higher grades, SofTex. New interior color schemes include several striking two-tone accents. Choices include Black/Blue (black as the main color with blue highlights), Moonstone (light gray as the main color with dark gray highlights), and new Macadamia (a warm, inviting cream color).
Multimedia
Standard across all trims include an available 8-inch touchscreen display, six speakers, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, Scout GPS Link compatibility, hands-free phone capability with voice recognition and music streaming via Bluetooth wireless technology, customizable home screen settings along with connected services such as Safety Connect and Wi-Fi Connect Powered by Verizon.
The 8-inch touchscreen and 2 USB ports are standard on LE, LE Hybrid, SE, XLE, and XSE grades. Audio plus is standard on XSE, XLE, and optional on SE CVT, adds SiriusXM Radio, Service Connect, and Remote Connect.
Premium Audio system which consists of a JBL nine-speaker, 800-watt system with Clari-Fi, Dynamic Voice Recognition, Dynamic Navigation, Dynamic Points of Interest Search, and Destination Assist Connect is available as an option on XSE and XLE.
Available engines for the 2022 Model year
For the 2022 model year, the L, LE, and XLE grades will use the 1.8-liter engine (2ZR-FAE), while the SE and XSE grades will be powered by a 2.0-liter Dynamic-Force direct-injection inline four-cylinder engine (M20A-FKS). The engines are designed to deliver more performance with less fuel. The engine is physically smaller and lighter, this helps to lower the car’s center of gravity and improve its overall balance.
Transmission
The 2022 Corolla Sedan is making use of the Dynamic-Shift CVT (continuously variable transmission) which combines the smooth, fuel-efficient performance of a CVT with the more direct feel of a traditional geared automatic. The Direct shift CVT has simulated 10-speed Sequential Shiftmatic steps along with Sport Mode.

The 2022 Corolla sedan features eight standard airbags and Toyota’s Star Safety System, which includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Anti-lock Braking System and Smart Stop Technology.
