The car is designed to send up to 50 percent of engine torque to the rear wheels in response to acceleration from the slippage at the front wheels. In a situation when the AWD isn’t needed, the electromagnetically controlled coupling on the rear-drive axle can disengage the propeller shaft to help prioritize the fuel efficiency.
The massive upgrade in the 2021 Lexus ES 250 won’t affect the legroom, truck room, ride comfort, cabin quietness, or vehicle agility.
The 2021 Lexus ES 350 Black Line Special Edition
Limited to 1,500 units, the Blackline Special Edition will be based on the F SPORT grade and it will be offered in a choice of three exterior colors which include Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0, Obsidian, and Ultra White. The interior will feature the F SPORT only two-tone interior features white and black coloring with gray stitching. Black outer mirrors darkened F SPORT wheels and lug nuts, and a new sporty black rear lip spoiler is among the unique features that will be found exclusively in the 2021 ES 350 Black Line Special Edition.

New updates in the 2021 Lexus ES in general
The design
Using the Global Architecture-K [GA-K] platform which allowed designers to create an ES design that is beautiful yet also enjoyable to drive. The new ES Sedan adds 2.6 in length, it’s lower reduced by 0.2 in, and its width increased by 1.8 in than its predecessor.
The front grille
The new signature grille follows the path set forth by the LC coupe and LS flagship. It adds individual cues unique to the ES, like the vertical grille pattern. At each corner of the bumper, the theme is repeated to give the ES a wide, planted look that promotes its strength and stability.
The Lights
The standard slim headlamp design of the ES features a distinctive L-shaped marker light. The optional triple beam headlights are available and help refine the look with three LED projector units.
The wheels
The 2021 Lexus ES will come with a standard 17-inch split 10-spoke design with dark silver accents and a machined finish. For a larger 18-inch, 10-spoke wheel is also available with the premium package and standard on the Luxury grade.
Ultra Luxury grade will feature an additional 18-inch split five-spoke wheel design with a high gloss finish. The F SPORT models are not left in the standard wheel choices, they come with standard unique 19-inch wheels, with a dual spoke design highlighted by a dark premium graphite coating that’s also unique to the F SPORT.

Interior color
Lexus grades the color of ES by the grades. The base grade is available with Nuluxe-trim options. They include Chateau, black and flaxen paired with black, dark Mocha wood, or Espresso wood trim accents.
Luxury grades are available with leather-trimmed interior color options Chateau, Black, and Flaxen, with interior accents that include Black and Flaxen paired with Black, Dark Mocha wood, or Espresso wood trim accents. F SPORT models offer NuLuxe®-trim interior color options that include White, Black, and Circuit Red, all of which are paired with Hadori Aluminum trim accents.
Ultra Luxury grade will offer an all-new semi-aniline leather-trimmed seat color and the wood trim option of Rich Cream paired with Espresso Wood trim.
Powertrains
With the introduction of the Lexus ES 250, the ES family received the new 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine powering its new variant. In total, the ES family can boast of three different powertrain options.
3.5-liter V6 engine
All the Lexus ES 350s are powered by a 3.5-liter V6 [2GR-FKS] that is designed to deliver responsive acceleration along with impressive efficiency. D-4S fuel injection system is now used to deliver fuel directly into the combustion chamber along with a low-pressure system that delivers fuel to the intake ports by using high-pressure injectors.
the 3.5-liter V6 engine produces 302 horsepower at 6,600 revolutions per minute and a torque of 267 lb-ft at 4,700 revolutions per minute. The fuel efficiency is rated at 22 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 26 mpg in combined driving.
An 8-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission is used on all ES 350s to complement the power of the updated V6 engine.

2.5-LITER engine
The other engine variant is the ES 300H’s 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine [ A25A-FXS] that’s running on the Atkinson cycle. This engine comes with a smaller, more power-dense motor and a hybrid axle. Its fuel rating is pegged at 44 combined mpg.
The 2021 model will feature a new lithium-ion battery that powers an electric motor. Aside from replacing the nickel-metal hybrid battery, the engineers also relocated the battery to underneath the back seat. This was made possible by the reduction of the battery by 4.7 inches and the adoption of a more compact cooling system.
Its relocation does not only free up the trunk space, but it also improves the front to rear weight distribution for better handling.
ES 300h features a hybrid control system.
Interior redesign
The seventh-generation ES includes:
- A more natural steering wheel angle
- Revised pedal position
- Standard 10-way power-adjustable front seats
- Heated seats are also available for the driver and front passenger along with a new suction-type ventilation system
Entertainment and multimedia system
2021 ES models will feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as a standard feature. Amazon Alexa is compatible with the new ES, with this, the driver with an iPhone and Android devices can use natural language commands to control a variety of functions such as car-to-home and home-to-car commands.
Multimedia system
With an 8-inch ES multimedia system sitting high on the standard models and a 12.3 inch multimedia on the same position for premium grades, the Electro Multi Vision [EMV] display features crisp, easy to read graphics and a revised menu system.
The speakers
The 10-speaker Pioneer audio system comes standard in all models, while an optional 17-speaker Mark Levinson system is available too along with 1,800 watts of power. The introduction of Mark Levinson brings Clari-Fi technology along to help in boosting the sound quality of low fidelity digital audio sources.
Connectivity
AT&T onboard Wi-Fi is included with a trial of 4GB trial or three months, 2021 ES will feature a Lexus Enform Safety Connect trial which will be offered for the first 3 years of ownership, this means it will elapse in 2024. With this new feature, Lexus can send alerts for specific factory recommended maintenance and this will also alert the preferred Lexus retailer if opted in.

2021 Lexus ES safety features
One significant and new security feature in the seventh generation ES luxury, F SPORT and Ultra Luxury is the Blind Spot Monitor [BSM] with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

According to the company, the 2021 Lexus ES models will start arriving dealerships in early fall 2020. The car will start arriving in Nigeria in December or January, this is since brand new Lexus ES models don’t come into the country as much due to low demand.
