Bentley introduces world-first three-Dimensional Wood Panel in Flying Spur

2021 Bentley Flying Spur is fully loaded, aside from the introduction of Touch Screen Remote TSR, the company just introduced the world-first three-dimensional wood panel to its flagship. Three-dimension Wood is a world-first for the automotive sector, its made of striking, diamond-shaped pattern enhanced with a three-dimensional surface finish machined directly into the wood.
Its concept was first displayed in 2015 at the Geneva Motor Show in Bentley’s EXP 10 speed 6 car. The all-new three-dimensional wood panel received wide acclaim. According to Bentley, the production of the concept took expert technical craftsmen 18 months.

How are they made?
Each is created from a single block of timber, the craftsmen carve the wood using a multi-axis routing machine to a tolerance of 0.1mm, that’s less than the thickness of a human hair. For the true color and texture of the wood to shine through for a natural appearance, an open pore lacquer is applied.

In a statement made by Bentley’s head of interior design for the Flying Spur, Brett Boydell, he said “Three-dimensional wood is the next interior design element we’ve taken from concept car idea to production reality. It works in perfect harmony with the three-dimensional leather quitting across the cabin of the Flying Spur and creates an even more special environment for those driven.”
What type of timber is used for the production of the Three-Dimensional Wood Panel?
The company uses two kinds of wood which are: American Walnut and American Cherry timber. Both are sourced from North American hardwood forests.
