Hilda Effiong Bassey was born on 20 September 1996, and she is from the Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa-Ibom State. She obtained a degree in Sociology from Madonna University Rivers State. In August 2021, she won the Jellof Faceoff competition.
Guinness World Record attempt
Hilda Baci became the talk of the town in March 2023 when she attempted to break the record for the longest cooking marathon, which was previously held by Lata Tondon whose cooking lasted for 87 hours, 45 minutes in 2019.
On May 11, 2023, Hilda started her record attempt titled “Cook-a-thon”. At exactly 7:45 am on May 15, 2023, she broke the record for the longest cooking marathon by any individual hitting 87 hours 50 minutes. On May 16, 2023. Guinness World Record spokesperson released an official statement on its website saying: “We are aware of the record attempt and are looking forward to receiving the evidence for our Records Management Team to review before we can confirm the record is official”.
Hilda’s aim from the onset was to cook for 96 hours but things took a positive turn and she extended it to 100 hours. Her record-breaking cooking drew recognition and support from millions of Nigerian, high profile Nigerians including the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola SanwoOlu; Lead Pastor of Harvester International, Bolaji Idowu; Nigerian award-winning singer, Tiwa Savage, Tim Godfrey, and Ice Prince visited her and cheer her up.
Others who couldn’t make it to the venue, cheered her up online, her name and business trended on Twitter for days.
Guinness World Record dethronement
Hilda Baci lost her Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual to an Irish Chef, Alan Fisher on November 7th, 2023. The record holder cooked for 119 hours and 57 minutes, surpassing Hilda Baci’s 93 hours 11 minutes record.
Alan Fisher also broke the record for the longest baking marathon by an individual with 47 hours and 21 minutes. The Irish Chef broke the two world records simultaneously.
