Peter Gregory Obi (Okwute) was born on 19th July 1961 in Onitsha, Anambra State. He attended Christ the King College, Onitsha. After his secondary education gained admission into the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1980, where he graduated with a B.A (Hons) in Philosophy four years later.

Political career
In 2003, Peter Obi contested in the Anambra State Governorship Election under the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), but Chris Ngige of the People’s Democratic Party was declared the winner by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
On 15 March 2006, after nearly three years of litigation, Ngige’s victory was overturned by the Court of Appeal. Obi took office as the governor of Anambra State on 17 March 2006. It didn’t end there, on 2 November 2006, he was impeached by the state house of assembly after seven months in office and was replaced the next day by Virginia Etiaba, his deputy, this made her the first-ever female governor in Nigeria’s history. On 9 February 2007, Obi was reinstated by the court of appeal sitting in Enugu.
On 29 May 2007, he left following the General Elections, in which Andy Uba was declared the winner by INEC. Obi challenged the matter in court on grounds that the four-year tenure he had won in the 2003 elections only started to run when he took office in March 2006. The Supreme Court of Nigeria upheld Obi’s contention and returned Obi to office.
Second term
Mr. Peter Obi was declared the winner of the 2010 Anambra State Gubernatorial Election after defeating Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
2019 Presidential elections
Peter Obi was named as the running mate to Atiku Abubakar of the People Democratic Party’s Presidential Candidate on 12 October 2018. They lost the election to Muhammadu Buhari.
2023 Presidential election
On March 24, 2022, Peter Obi declared his intention to run for the position of President of Nigeria under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party but later pulled out, citing massive bribing of delegates, and votes to buy at the party’s primary.
He announced that he will be running for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the Labour Party platform. That was how the Obidient movement was birthed.
