History
The BMW i8 was first introduced as the Concept Vision Efficient Dynamics, the i8 is a part of BMW’s “Project I” and it’s being marketed as a new brand, BMW I, sold separately from BMW or Mini. It was launched for retail customers in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2013.
In 2009, BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept car with a plug-in hybrid 1.5L three-cylinder turbo diesel engine was unveiled.
Three other electric motors with 104 kW were added.
In 2011, the new concept includes an electric motor located in the front axle powering the front wheels rated 96 kW, a turbocharged 1.5-liter 3 cylinder gasoline engine driving rear wheels was unveiled. The combined power output was 260 kW and 550 N.m of torque.
Other concept vehicles were also released after this. The production version was unveiled at the 2013 International Motor Show Germany.

The production of the i8 ended in June 2020. A total of 20,465 units were produced, 16,581 coupes, and 3,884 roadsters.
