Rolls-Royce debuts its first fully-electric car, the 2024 Spectre
Rolls Royce fulfilled a prophesy made by its co-founder, Charles Rolls who prophesied about the electric future of motor cars in 1900. More than 120 years later, the prophecy has been fulfilled with the debut of the company’s first fully electric vehicle, the Spectre. The Spectre ushers the company into the electric era. The exterior design
The all-new Ultra luxury 2024 Spectre ushers Rolls Royce into an electric future. The inspiration was gotten from haute couture, modernist sculpture, nautical design, tailoring, and contemporary art. The design was also drawn from modern yacht concepts, specifically the clarity and precision of line, intelligent use of reflection, and application of taper to emotionalize silhouettes. 22 LEDs light up the sandblastedrear side of each of the vanes, their gentle glow reflected in the polished front surface for a subtle and three-dimensional night signature.
The front features the Spectre’s split headlight treatment, and the wildest grille ever bestowed on Rolls-Royce. To help guide the air around the motor car’s front, the vanes of the Pantheon grille are now smoother in section and have a flusher fit.
The stainless finish of the grille enhances the Spectre’s presence using environmental reflection. The luxury electric car comes with a drag coefficient of 0.25cd which makes it the most aerodynamic motor car ever.
The tail lamps are set into the largest single-body panel ever produced for a Rolls-Royce, which extends from the A-Pillar to the luggage compartment. The jewel-like vertical taillamps themselves are colorless for neutrality, in anticipation of the myriad of colorways selected by clients during the commissioning process.
Wheels
Standard on the 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre is the 23-inch wheels. The luxury electric two-door coupe is the first to feature these wheels in almost one hundred years.
The interior design
The interior of the electric Spectre comes with the most technologically advanced Bespoke features. Available on the coupe is the Starlight Doors which incorporate 4,796 softly illuminated starts. The coach doors can also be commissioned with a backdrop of wood Canadel Paneling, which takes its name from the cove in the South of France where Sir Henry Royce and his design team spent their winters.
The ethereal night-time theme continues with Spectre‟s Illuminated Fascia. Developed over the course of two years and more than 10,000 collective hours, it incorporates the Spectre nameplate surrounded by a cluster of over 5,500stars.
Standard on the Spectre is equipped with a completely redesigned digital architecture of luxury named SPIRIT. The SPIRIT will manage the car’s functions as well as the marque’s Whispers application which allows clients to interact with their car remotely, and receive live information curated by the marque’s luxury intelligence specialists.
For the first time ever, clients are now able to extend their Bespoke commission beyond the physical world and into the digital architecture that underpins SPIRIT. Inspired by the marque‟s clients‟ love of bespoke timepieces, the color of the dials can now complement the interior hue of the motor car.
New to Rolls-Royce is the all-new front seat design which has been inspired by British tailoring, with lapel sections that can be rendered in contrasting or matching colors to the main base.
The aluminum architecture of luxury
The all-new 2024 Spectre features sophisticated extruded aluminum sections and integration of the battery into the structure of the motor car which makes it 30% stiffer than any previous Rolls Royce. This new design has brought about a low seating position and enveloping cabin as well as a secondary function for the battery- almost 700kg of sound deadening.
Power, range, and dimensions
The 2023 Rolls-Royce Spectre produces 430kW of power and 900Nm of torque from its electric powertrain, the car can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. Its electric range is pegged at 320 miles per full charge.
These figures are subject to change ahead of official confirmation before the market launch in the fourth quarter of 2023.
