The new exterior design

The 2022 Acura MDX features a bold and upright face, intricately sculpted grille and hood, and a wide, aggressive stance. These cues are shared with the Acura Precision Concept that redefined Acura design when it was first unveiled in 2016. The new MDX comes with a 2.8-inch longer wheelbase, with a stance that’s 1.4 inches wider in the front and rear.

The dash to axle ratio has been extended by more than 4-inches. It’s bold and sporting new look is accentuated by a multi-faceted Diamond pentagon grille and new four-element Jewel Eye LED headlights with an embedded Chicane daytime running light. Three-dimensional sculpting under the headlights serves to visually widen the front, blending to fog light housing at the bottom.
The new MDX’s windows are framed by chrome strip [gloss black and A-Spec models] that begins in front of the mirrors on the front fender, running under the outside mirrors and ultimately circling the side windows.
Coming to the rear, the wide-set taillights have their Chicane design set in an eye-catching light-blade, and serve to define and enhance the width and stability of the pronounced rear fenders.
All-new body and chassis
The new MDX targets the driving dynamics of a sport sedan. It’s designed from the outset in pursuit of Type S levels of performance, MDX sports its first-ever double-wishbone front suspension, combined with an all-new multilink rear suspension for incredibly precise road holding while maintaining the smooth ride that is a key MDX highlight.

The new platform also features improved rigidity, paying dividends in ride comfort and handling in combination with improved collision safety performance. To take full advantage of the road, quick precise steering and more powerful brakes give the driver the ability to take full advantage of the new platform.
The new double-wishbone front suspension is a core feature of Acura’s performance DNA. The suspension delivers a larger tire contact patch through corners, this helps to increase grip, while improving ride quality with a greater vertical freedom of movement. Its new rear suspension also improves stability and response.

To give the MDX more rigidity, the damper at the front connects to a new cast aluminum housing that is 45-percent stiffer overall for better noise isolation with a new rigid-mounted subframe contributing to a 7-percent increase in lateral torsion for better handling.
The 2022 Acura MDX steering
The 2022 MDX features a new belt-driven Electric Power Steering [EPS] with a high-output electric motor for increased steering assist that is essential for the quicker steering ratio afforded by the new variable gear ratio steering system.

The new steering wheel system gives instantaneous response with smooth, natural, and precise steering feel.
Improved Braking Performance
2022 MDX is also debuting with enhanced braking capability. It features larger and thicker front brake rotors and a new electric brake booster. The front rotors are now 2mm thicker and 30mm larger in diameter, the new brakes can withstand repeated hard stops without reduced performance. This is brought about by an 18-percent increase in heat capacity.
A new electric brake booster has been added to the MDX, it allows the Collision Mitigation Braking System [CMBS] to react 230 milliseconds faster, this reduces the stopping distance from 30 mph by 12 feet.
Wheels and tires
Standard on the 2022 MDX is a 19×8.5 (+1 in. diameter, +0.5 in. width) wheels which are wrapped in wider 255 (+10mm) series tires take full advantage of the steering and suspension updates to the new platform.

Also available is the 20×9.0 wheels (+0.5 in. width). Its in-wheel resonators reduce road noise when driving over uneven surfaces at highway speeds.
New tire developed exclusively for MDX features a revised rubber compound, construction, and tread pattern to reduce rolling resistance by 17-percent.
Exterior colors and trim
Two standard color finishes and six premium colors including two offerings are available for the 2022 Acura MDX. Phantom Violet Pearl was first offered on the 2021 TLX and an all-new Liquid Carbon Metallic. Apex Blue Pearl returns as an exclusive color offered on the MDX A-Spec. Gloss black accents front to rear, darkened headlight and taillight treatment and Shark-Gray wheels add a distinct sport appearance to the MDX A-Spec.
