The production of Mercedes Benz GLA250 started in sometime 2013 ahead of the 2014 model year. The car arrived in the dealer’s showroom in 2014 with Japan and the USA being the first two countries to take delivery of Mercedes Benz GLA250. The production took place at the Mercedes Benz Rastatt plant in Germany. In 2016, the GLA Class commenced in a new assembly plant in Iracemapolis near Sao Paulo.
The first generation GLA250 was designed by Uli Baur. The engine variants include: 1.6 Litre I4 (petrol), 2.0 Litre I4 (petrol), 1.5 Litre I4 (diesel) and 2.1 Litre I4 (diesel]. It also came with two transmissions which include a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT automatic.
The production of the second generation GLA class started in December 2019 in three different assembly plants namely Germany: Rastatt (Mercedes Benz Werk Rastatt), China: Beijing (Beijing Benz), and Thailand: Samut Prakarn (TAAP).
The second generation was design by Gorden Wagener and it came in 7-speed DCT automatic and 8-speed DCT automatic transmission.
