The Toyota Highlander lineup returned to the 2025 model year with a Limited 25^th Edition hybrid to mark its 25^th anniversary. In April 2000, the Highlander model was unveiled in the U.S. It shares the same platform with the Toyota Camry. The new 25^th Edition hybrid grade is built off the Highlander Limited AWD grade. Standard features on the grade include side rockers, 20-inch wheels, and front and rear bumper with gleaming silver accents. The new 2025 Toyota Highlander 25th Edition Hybrid

Side rockers, 20-inch wheels, and front and rear bumpers with gleaming silver accents characterize the exterior of the new Highlander 25th Edition Hybrid. Two exterior color options are also available – Heavy Metal for Highlander and the lustrous Wind Chill Pearl. On the inside is premium leather-trimmed seating for up to seven finished in Portobello color, with the driver and passenger headrest carrying a custom 25^th Edition logo.

The special edition grade also received premium touches like puddle lamps, illuminated door sills, carpet floor mats, an all-weather rear cargo liner, a key glove, and a rear liftgate all bearing the 25^th Edition logo. A 12.3-inch color digital cluster, an 11-speaker JBL Premium audio system, a 12.3-inch touchscreen display with the latest Toyota Audio Multimedia system, three-zone automatic climate control and the latest Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ are all standard on the grade.

Powertrain

Toyota offered the 2025 Toyota Highlander in five Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) and five 2.4-liter turbo-powered gas grades. The Hybrid grades are available in XLE, XLE Nightshade, Limited, Limited 25^TH Edition, and Platinum grades. Electric On-Demand AWD system is standard across all hybrid grades. The 2.4-liter turbocharged grade is available in LE, XSE, XLE, Limited, and Platinum. Customers can choose from a choice of FWD or eAWD for the LE and XLE grades, the 2.4L turbo XSE, Limited, and Platinum grades are available with Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD as standard.

Seating, towing capacity, weight, and storage space

The new 2025 Highlander can accommodate up to eight people and has up to 84.3 cubic feet (cu. ft) of storage with the second and third rows folded, with 48.4 cubic feet behind the second row when the third row folded flat. All HEV grades come with up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity, while the Highlander 2.4-L turbo models can tow up to 5,000 pounds, an additional 1,500 pounds.

Exterior and interior color options

A range of exterior color options are available, they include Midnight Black Metallic, Blueprint, Cypress, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Cement, and Celestial Silver Metallic. Heavy Metal, Ruby Flare Pearl, and Wind Chill Pearl are available at an additional cost.

Available interior colors depend on the interior material. Fabric-trimmed grades are finished in a choice of graphite or black, SofTex-trimmed models come in black, graphite, or harvest beige; leather-trimmed models come in choices like red, black, harvest beige, graphite, glazed caramel, and the Limited 25th Edition’s exclusive portobello colored interior.

The hybrid powertrain

All hybrid grades are powered by a combination of a high-efficiency 2.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine and two electric motor generators. For improved engine efficiency, the model employs a variable cooling system and a fully variable oil pump.

The hybrid system on the 2025 Toyota Highlander

Both deliver a combined power output of 243 horsepower and a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. The engine fuel efficiency is pegged at 35 combined MPG. Power generated by the hybrid system is delivered to the wheel via the unique AWD system. This system employs a separate mounted electric motor to power the rear wheels when needed.

Three drive modes are available on the hybrid grade, they include NORMAL, ECO, EV, and SPORT. ECO mode is designed to offer maximum efficiency from the fuel and battery, while the NORMAL mode is designed for everyday driving. The SPORT mode on the other hand quickens the throttle response from the hybrid system to deliver improved acceleration. Just as the name sounds, the EV mode offers electric-only driving at low speeds for short distances.

The battery is charged by regenerative braking that captures the energy of the turning wheels as the vehicle slows. The vehicle also stores data as it’s driven to support fuel-efficient driving patterns.

Gasoline powertrain

A more powerful 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that delivers 265 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque is standard across all gasoline grades. This model is equipped with a Stop and Start Engine system that allows the engine to shut off when the vehicle comes to a complete stop and restart when the driver’s foot lifts from the brake pedal. Gas grade has a fuel efficiency rating of up to 22 MPG city/ 29 MPG highway/ 25 MPG combined.

The engine is mated to a direct shift 8-speed Electronically Controlled Automatic Transmission system with four drive modes including Eco, Normal, Sport, and Snow. All grades can tow up to 5,000 pounds and include Trailer Sway Control (TSC), which uses the Vehicle Stability Control VSC to help control the trailer movement. This system can also be found on the 2025 Toyota Tundra and 4Runner.

Multimedia system on the 2025 Toyota Highlander

Standard across all grades is an 8-inch display, a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system is available as an option. The system offers a wide range of enhanced connectivity and convenience features, including Over-the-Air (OTA) updates. Customers can also interact with the system through intuitive touch and voice activation.

An optional Connected Service Drive Connect gives drivers and passengers access to Intelligent Assistant, Cloud Navigation, and Destination Assist with a one-year trial included on selected models.

The premium audio system also allows for dual Bluetooth phone connectivity, with support for standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Customers who desire an immersive listening experience can opt for the JBL Premium Audio system boasting of 1,200 watts of power playing through 11 speakers in nine locations.

A total of five USB ports are available in the cabin to cater to all your charging needs. Two Type-C USB ports plus one Type-A port are located at the bottom of the center stack. Second passengers have access to two Type-C USB ports located at the bottom rear of the center console.

All grades are equipped with the latest Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ as standard for improved safety in and outside the cabin. The system includes:
