In this test, the body and windows must withstand fire from an assault rifle using armor-piercing ammunition. The S 680 GUARD 4MATIC also meets the requirements of Germany&#8217;s Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"840\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/sellatease.com\/public-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/21C0452_023-840x480.jpg\" alt=\"Testing the  2022 Mercedes Benz S 680 GUARD 4MATIC\" class=\"wp-image-3876\"\/><figcaption>Mercedes-Benz S 680 GUARD 4MATIC <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Protection against blast attacks is documented by compliance with the latest version of the VPAM ERV(Explosive Resistant Vehicles) standard, the test criteria for which are not freely available. The S 680 GUARD 4MATIC was not only the very first vehicle to complete the current tests, it also achieved the top scores in all three tests (roof, floor, and side) with three out of three stars. Test result: &#8220;no damage&#8221; to dummies and indicators according to assessment scheme VPAM ERV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the first time, the VPAM ERV certification, in this case, included tests with so-called biofidelic dummies. Consideration was given to the damage to the dummies on all seats, which differ in design (depending on the test case). The Primus model used was developed by the company CTS together with the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin) and the Dresden University of Applied Sciences (HTW Dresden), incorporating findings from the Berlin Charit\u00e9 research-based teaching hospital. Primus is particularly well suited for this special use: bone density and structure are modeled on the human skeleton in every detail. Epoxy resin aluminum powder is used as a bone substitute, and webbing made of propylene is used as ligaments and tendons. The tissue and internal organs of this biofidelic dummy are made of silicone and acrylic. Thanks to the human-like structure, injuries are easily recognizable from the outside. The evaluation was based on the most severely affected dummy or seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"_Technical_refinements\"><\/span><strong>&nbsp;Technical refinements<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>New technical refinements include new door actuators and hydraulically operated window lifters. The new door actuator is an electromechanical system that helps open and closes the heavy doors at only operating forces. This feature applies on both level ground and sloping grounds. The stepless door arrest also proves its worth in this situation. The door&#8217;s sensor technology detects when and how it is to be moved or stopped. Algorithms from human-supporting robotics (cobots) are used.
