Aside from cooling down the temperature of the engine, coolants also lubricate the moving parts it comes in contact with as well as protect your engine from freezing in cold temperatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coolant constitutes a mixture of di-ionized water, glycol with addictive packages, and some chemical additives. The constituents vary across vehicles and engines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"When_to_use_water_as_a_coolant\"><\/span><strong>When to use water as a coolant.<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Water should be used to top up the coolant in the radiator if the level is low and should be driving for a short distance until you get to a mechanic who will fix the fault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"_How_does_untreated_water_used_as_coolant_affect_the_engine\"><\/span><strong>&nbsp;How does untreated water used as coolant affect the engine?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The use of dirty water as a coolant will always affect the engine. When I say dirty water, I mean any water that is not di-ionized, water that contains impurities. Yes, most water from boreholes is not treated, they contain heavy minerals from the earth&#8217;s crust. I will outline a few disadvantages of using water as coolant below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\">\n<li><strong>Corrosion and rust in the engine<\/strong>: using dirty water can lead to corrosion of the internal engine components, thereby reducing the life span of the engine. This is caused by chemical components contained in the water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Overheating<\/strong>: driving a car over a long distance using water as coolant will cause overheating because, at a point, the coolant will be boiling, thereby bringing about no cooling in the engine. a coolant is mixed with glycol to increase its boiling point, but in this case, it&#8217;s not so.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reduce the life span and efficiency of the engine<\/strong>: Corrosion and corroding reduce the life span of the engine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Using_the_best_coolant_will_prolong_the_lifespan_of_the_engine_see_what_you_should_do\"><\/span><strong>Using the best coolant will prolong the lifespan of the engine, see what you should do.<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sellatease.com\/public-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/christian-buehner-BDd9kmf8kQk-unsplash-jpg.webp\" alt=\"Prolong use of water only as coolant can damage your engine.
