Mercedes-EQ, a division of Mercedes Benz has unveiled the EQS, an electric sedan that will compete with the likes of Tesla X and Lucid Air. With the release of the luxury sedan, I deemed it fit to review the full specifications and price of 2022 Mercedes Benz EQS EV in Nigeria.
Mercedes EQ is a division of Mercedes Benz which specializes in the production of an electric vehicle, over the past years, the company hasn’t gotten the result they bargained for but with the introduction of this sedan, the script will be rewritten in their favor.
Tesla has been on the news lately following its position as the top producer of electric cars. Lucid Motors joined the competition with the introduction of the Lucid Air luxury sedan. Mercedes Benz in a bid to keep their business flourishing has joined the trend with the production of this luxurious Mercedes EQS. The first models that will hit the market are the EQS 450+ and the EQS 580 4Matic.
Mercedes is working hard to achieve its Ambition 2039 initiative. They are working hard to offer a carbon-neutral new car fleet within 20 years from now. By 2030, the company is aiming to make its lineup consist of 50% electric cars, this includes fully electric vehicles and plugin hybrids.

Mercedes EQS Aerodynamics
The 2022 Mercedes EQS is debuting with a drag coefficient of 0.20. This makes it the most aerodynamic production car in the world.
Power output and power train
The power output of the EQS is up to 385 kW and the ranges up to 770 kilometers. This also meets every expectation of progressive saloon in the S-Class segment.
Mercedes made it known that a performance version of up to 560 kW is being planned. All EQS models have an electric powertrain (eATS) at the rear axle, while the versions with 4matic also have an eATS at the front axle. The reason for this is the fact that 4Matic standard for four-wheel drive automatic.
The EQS 450+ PRODUCES 245 KW of power and torque of 568 Nm, while the EQS 580 4Matic produces 385 kW of power and torque of 855 Nm.
Battery and charging
The EQS marks the launch of a new generation of batteries with significantly higher energy density. It consists of two batteries, the larger one has a usable energy content of 107.8 kw/h. That is around 26 percent more than the Mercedes EQC.
Over-the-air updates s made available by the innovative battery management system developed in-house. This aids the energy management system to remain up to date throughout the life cycle.
In terms of cell chemistry, the cobalt content of the cathodes has been reduced to ten percent.
Coming to the charging, the EQS can be charged with up to 200 kW at fast-charging stations with direct current. 15 minutes of charge can power for up to another 300 kilometers. At home or public charging stations, it can be conveniently charged with up to 22 kW with AC using the onboard charger.

Navigation
The 2022 Mercedes EQS with the help of the new Navigation with Electric Intelligence plans the fastest and most convenient route, including charging stops, based on numerous factors and reacts dynamically to traffic jams or a change in driving style. A new feature of the EQS is a visualization in the infotainment system (MBUX Mercedes-Benz User Experience) showing whether the available battery capacity is sufficient to return to the starting point without charging. This new system estimates charging costs per charging stop.
The exterior design
For me, I will say the new EQS is the electric version of the Mercedes Benz S-Class. The EQS is distinguishable from combustion engine vehicles.
The front is combined into a ‘Black Panel’ unit. Innovative headlights connected by a light band and the deep black radiator grille (Black Panel) form the distinctive face. The exclusive look of the Black Panel radiator grille with central Mercedes star can be enhanced still further: as an optional extra, they are also available with a three-dimensional star pattern. This so-called Mercedes-Benz pattern is available in conjunction with AMG Line Exterior or Electric Art Exterior.
Automatic doors
It features automatic doors at the front and rear that opens automatically when the driver approaches the car.
New parking system
With the introduction of the new parking system, the car can park and unpark the car via smartphone using a Remote Parking Assist. Aside from this, powerful sensors also help the driver to maneuver in many areas. With the pre-installation for the INTELLIGENT PARK PILOT, the EQS is prepared for Automated Valet Parking (AVP, SAE level 4).
Digital Light
The new digital light headlamp technology enables guides markings or warning symbols to be projected onto the road. This is standard from the Advanced Plus equipment level.
Drive Pilot
The new EQS is designed to drive in automated mode at up to 60 km/h where traffic density is high or tailbacks or suitable motorway sections.
The new MBUX Hyperscreen
The new MBUX Hyperscreen is the absolute highlight in the interior. This large, curved screen unit sweeps almost from A-pillar to A-pillar. It comprises three screens that sit under a cover glass and appear to merge into one. The 12.3-inch OLED display for the front passenger gives him or her their display and control area.
The entertainment functions are only available there while the car is being driven in accordance with the country-specific legal regulations. Mercedes-EQ relies on an intelligent, camera-based locking logic: if the camera detects that the driver is looking at the front passenger display, it is automatically dimmed.
Driver Assistance Systems
The Driver Assistance System comprises numerous driver support functions. A new function such as an additional microsleep warning from Attention Assist has been added to it. This function analyses the driver’s eyelid movements through a camera on the driver’s display.
Integral safety
The integral safety is a system used in many Mercedes Benz models, it features rigid passenger cell, special deformation zones, and state-of-the-art restraint systems. PRE-SAFE is a standard feature on the EQS.
A crash test carried out on the vehicle at the Vehicle Safety Technology Centre (TFS) verified the car’s performance in various additional load situations.
Other features of the new EQS include Over the air updates, new energizing Air Control Plus, automatic comfort doors, new sound experience, standard rear-axle steering, etc.
Release date of the 2022 Mercedes Benz EQS
Mercedes Benz scheduled a world premier, hopefully, the EQS will go on sale in the first quarter of 2021.
Global pricing of the 2022 Mercedes Benz EQS
The pricing of the 2022 Mercedes Benz EQS has not been released by the company but we will give you estimated pricing ahead of the official release.
The Mercedes EQS450+ will start from $96,000 while the bigger EQS580 4Matic will start from $116,000.
2022 Mercedes Benz EQS price in Nigeria
The price of 2022 Mercedes Benz EQS will start from 65,000,000 Naira for the EQS450+, while the EQS580 4Matic will start from 80,000,000 Naira. The price above covers both customs duty and other taxes. Without customs duty, it will cost from 36,000,000 Naira and 45,000,000 Naira respectively.
