Design
The new iPhone 17 Pro Max debuted with a new brushed aluminum unibody design crafted with a lightweight aerospace-grade 7000-series aluminum alloy. Additionally, space is also created for internal components, thereby making room for a larger battery.
For enhanced cooling of the device, Apple designed a vapour chamber. Deionized water is sealed inside the vapour chamber, which is laser-welded into the aluminum chassis to remove heat, thereby allowing the device to operate at even higher performance.
All grades also feature Ceramic Shield at the rear for up to 4x better resistance to cracks than the back glass on previous models.
Battery and charging
The device is powered by a Li-Ion 5088 mAh non-removable battery, which can charge 50 percent in 20 minutes with an optional high-wattage USB-C power adapter like Apple’s new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max.
Customers can also charge their device wirelessly using the available 25W wireless MagSafe or Qi2 charger, which can charge up to 50% in 30 minutes. 4.5W reverse wired charging is also available on the device.
Display
At the front of the device is a 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a screen resolution of 1320 by 2868 pixels, protected by Ceramic Shield 2. Apple also added a new coating for 3X better scratch resistance and improved anti-reflection to reduce glare.
For the first time in Apple history, the 17 Pro Max was unveiled with ProMotion, which delivers up to 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling of the device. Other features of the device include Always-On and 3000 nits of peak outdoor brightness.
The new Apple A19 Pro chip and the N1 Chip
The new iPhone 17 Pro Max is powered by the latest Apple A19 Pro chip. This new chip delivers up to 40 percent better sustained performance than the previous generation- ideal for gaming, video editing, and running large local language models.
All grades also feature the new in-house built N1 wireless network chip that enables Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. This chip offers top-notch performance and reliability of features like Personal HotSpot and AirDrop.
Camera
At the rear of the device is a triple 48MP camera setup consisting of a 48 MP wide lens, 48 MP periscope telephoto lens, and 48MP ultrawide lens. The rear camera setup can shoot videos at 4K, 1080p, 10-bit HDR, Dolby Vision HDR, ProRes, etc. Customers can take photos and record videos in all lighting conditions, thanks to its dual-LED dual-tone flash.
An 18 MP ultrawide lens is available at the front for capturing clean selfies and recording videos even in 4K resolution.
A variety of enhancements have also been done to the camera system to deliver clean photos and videos with less noise while preserving its natural detail.
The new iOS 26
The new iPhone 17 Pro Max debuted with the latest iOS 26, featuring a beautiful new design, powerful Apple Intelligence capabilities, and great improvements to the apps. It features a new liquid glass design, making apps and the system experience a more aggressive and delightful design. The new OS now translates audio and video on the go with Live Translation.
