A brief history of Bugatti.

In May 1998, Bugatti was acquired by Volkswagen AG. They acquired the rights to use the Bugatti logo and trade name Bugatti Automobile S.A.S. After the acquisition, between 1998 and 1999, Bugatti introduced a series of Giugiaro-designed concept vehicles, each of which came with a permanent four-wheel drive, and they were powered by the Volkswagen design W18 engine. They presented their first car, the EB 118, a 2-door luxury coupe, at the 1998 Paris motor show.

This was closely followed by the EB218, which was a four-door saloon presented at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show.

The third and final car was the 18/3 Chion. The Chiron was a mid-engine sports car that was presented at the 1999 International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany.

The Bugatti Veyron, which was the fourth concept car, was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 1999. It was named EB 18/4 Veyron.
