Available grades
The all-new 2024 Lexus GX 550 is available in six grades: Premium, Premium+, Luxury, Luxury+, and the newly-added Overtrail and Overtrail+ off-road-oriented models. The Overtrail + grades come standard with 33-inch All-Terrain tires and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Exterior design
Lexus redesigned the all-new Lexus GX from the ground up, the model debuted with a more boxier and rugged exterior design. The side features a solid, powerful presence featuring a horizontally flowing body with an increased wheelbase of 2.36 inches. The overall length also increased by 2.75 inches. For the 2024 model, the overall width increased by 3.74 inches on entry grades and 4.52 inches on the Overtrail grade and the front overhang has also been reduced by 0.78 inches for improved clearance.
At the rear is the signature unified L-shaped light bar which adds a more aggressive stance on the model. The all-new GX will feature a standard power rear lift door with a pop-out window and an available kick sensor for hands-free convenience.
11 exterior color options are available as standard depending on the grade, they include Eminent White Pearl, Nebula Gray Pearl, Atomic Silver, GX-first Incognito, Caviar, Nori Green Pearl, and Nightfall Mica. The Overtrail and Overtrail+ grades will offer exclusive bi-tone exterior color combinations including Atomic Silver/Black Roof, Incognito/Black Roof, Nori Green Pearl/Black Roof, and Lexus-first Earth/Black Roof.
Interior design
The interior of the third-generation GX was not left out in the redesign. The cabin features a driver-focused cockpit design also seen in the all-new RX. It provides a clean, open space that seamlessly connects the available Heads-Up Display (HUD) to the center where the standard 14-inch Multimedia Touchscreen Display with Lexus Interface technology is. Physical dials for frequently used controls such as air conditioning and audio volume were not touched in the redesign. Wireless Apple CarPlay Integration and Android Auto compatibility as well as a digital 12.3-inch Multi-Information Display (MID) is standard across all grades.
With seating for up to 7, the all-new GX incorporates thoughtful touches at every turn. Ergonomic measures have been implemented to help decrease load and work to aid driving posture through seat cushion, seatback bolster, and headrest improvements.
Other interior features in the third generation Lexus GX 550 include six illuminated charging ports (four in Overtrail), a wireless charger available in the front console, storage space in the center console, door pockets, up to 12 cupholders, 120V AC inverter and large storage space for up to 5 suitcases with the 3rd row folded.
Sound system
Standard on all 2024 Lexus GX 550 is the 10-speaker premium surround system, with available 21-speaker Mark Levinson Surround Sound.
GA-F Platform and suspension
The all-new GX 550 builds on the GA-F platform used on the current generation LX 600. The GA-F Platform features a strong and lightweight ladder frame which increases body rigidity and improves on-road handling.
Standard across all grades is the newly developed double-wishbone front suspension paired with a multi-link rear suspension to achieve both a high level of off-road driving performance and on-road prowess.
Engines, transmission, towing, and overall performance
The all-new GX 550 is offered in two powertrain options to cater to all customer’s needs. Standard in the U.S. is the efficient twin-turbocharged 3.4L V6 engine which is mated with a 10-speed Direct Shift Automatic Transmission. The powerful twin-turbocharged V6 engine generates 349 horsepower, outperforming the previous generation V8’s 301 horsepower, and torque output also improves to a massive 479 lb.-ft.
A hybrid powertrain which is the second powertrain in the lineup will be available in the U.S. at an undisclosed date.
Premium, Premium+, and Overtrail grades come standard with an increased towing capacity of 8,000 lbs.
Safety and driver Assistive systems
The third generation Lexus GX 550 comes standard with Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 for improved safety for both occupants and other road users.
