The new Advanced Rear Seat Reminder
The new 2025 Toyota Sienna debuted with the Advanced Rear Seat Reminder sensor concealed in the headliner and uses a 60GHz band millimeter-wave radar to scan the second and third-row seats for potential movement. If the system senses movement in the scanned area after the vehicle has been opened then closed and the car has been locked, it will trigger the hazard lights and sound the door chime nine times.
90 seconds after the initial warning, if the car door has not been opened, the system will sound the horn as part of the escalation warning. Four minutes after the horn, if the driver has the system on his Toyota app, the vehicle will send a push notification via the Toyota app in addition to an SMS text message to the mobile number saved in the user’s account.
Two minutes later, after sending the text, the app will attempt to generate an automated phone call from Toyota Safety.
The warning sequence operates differently when the vehicle is left unlocked. If the driver’s door has been opened and locked, and it senses movement in the car, the vehicle will not provide the initial warning door lock chime and hazard flashing. If the driver has an active Safety Connect subscription and opted for Advanced Razer Seat Reminder notifications via the Toyota App, it will send a text to register the phone number. After two minutes have elapsed, the system will attempt to generate an automated phone call from Toyota Safety. This system offers top-notch safety.
