Driving modes

With three driving modes integrated into the 2021 Evoque, you have nothing to worry about when you are on the wheels. They are the Hybrid mode, Electric vehicle mode [EV], and Save mode.

  1. Hybrid mode: this is the default driving mode. It combines power from the electric motor and petrol engine. This is the best mode to use and for this reason, the company made it a default mode. To maximize efficiency and comfort for a journey, you have to enter a destination in the navigation system, this will enable the Predictive Energy Optimisation [PEO] function to intelligently integrate route and GPS data.

  2. Electric Vehicle mode [EV]: In this mode, the vehicle runs solely in the electric motor using the energy stored in the battery, for quiet, zero-tailpipe emission journeys. This mood is the best mode ever because you are saving our world. In this mode, you are emitting zero emissions. I will advise you to go for this mode whenever you are cruising around in your Evoque. Help save our world. With this mode, you are saving more in fuel.

  3. Save Mode: With this mode, you prioritize the combustion engine as its main power source, while maintaining the battery state of charge at the chosen level. This mode will cost you more than the EV mode.

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle [PHEV] Technology

With the design of the Land Rover’s Premium Transverse Architecture from the onset to accommodate plug-in and mild hybrid technologies, the company can now design high-end plug-in electric vehicles without compromising on the power, luxury, and interior space.

Electric Rear Axle Drive is powered by a compact 15kw lithium-ion battery that is carefully placed below the rear seats. The battery is made from a combination of 84 prismatic cells, arranged in seven 50AH modules of 12. A 6mm-thick steel underlay is used to protect the battery without compromising the vehicle’s hallmark all-terrain capability.

The electric motor is decoupled to reduce drag and optimize efficiency when the car attains a speed of 135km/h and above.

Under the front seat is another engineering innovation known as the compact high-voltage junction box [HVJB]. This is made up of a DC converter that changes high-voltage current from the hybrid battery to low voltage to support the 12-volt network, and a 7kw on-board charger used to charge the hybrid battery when the vehicle is plugged-in.

A belt-integrated Starter generator inverter is packaged next to the HVJB. This device can recuperate energy to the high voltage battery for storage to use later or for immediate redeployment to support full all-wheel-drive capability.

A new braking system is also introduced to replace the traditional brake vacuum servo, the new braking system is known as brake-by-wire. This new system can deliver up to 0.2g of deceleration under regenerative braking, maximizing energy efficiency by using the vehicle’s kinetic energy to recharge the battery on the overrun.

Charging your 2021 Range Rover Evoque

The 2021 Evoque comes with a mode 2 Home charging cable, this will enable customers to fully charge the vehicle from a plug socket un 6hrs 42 minutes. The perfect time to recharge your car is at night.

The company also produced mode 3 charging cable which enables the customers to plug-in to a 7kw AC domestic wall box or AC public charge points, this will charge from 0-80 percent in just 1hr 24 minutes.

Using a growing public charging network of DC charge points, you can charge from 0-80 percent in just 30 minutes using a 32kw DC.

The charging flap is located on the rear fender.

With the introduction of the Land Rover’s intelligent In control remote smartphone application, you can monitor your vehicle’s charge status, ready the vehicle for the journey ahead, or even set a charging timer to take advantage of off-peak energy tariffs.

Owners can automatically pre-condition the battery and cabin temperature before starting a journey: using mains power to do this when the vehicle is plugged in rather than drawing energy from the battery when you start driving maximizes range and enhances occupant comfort.

The new Eight Speed automatic transmission

With the increase in the 2021 Evoque power output, the company introduced the new smooth eight-speed automatic transmission that has been selected to match the power and torque delivered to the three-cylinder engine and also work with the ERAD. The new transmission is 5kg lighter than the nine-speed transmission used in other models.

It’s designed to deliver enhanced refinement and shift feel, and its an integral part of the hybrid system.

How many kilometers can the hybrid go before recharging it?

The 2021 Range Rover Evoque with plug-in hybrid can commute a total of 30.2km [18.8 miles] which is an average vehicle commute in the UK. You can drive to work and back twice in EV mode before needing a recharge.

I give the company a thumb up for that, the car can serve its customers better in terms of increased power.
