Advanced powertrain
Jeep Wrangler Willys 4XE continues to provide a unique on and off-road experience with the most advanced powertrain ever developed for a Wrangler. The advanced powertrain maximizes the 49 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) to deliver pure-electric operation for your day-to-day activities.
Two electric motors and a 400-volt battery back combine with the fuel-efficient, turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder to produce 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The combustion engine and the two electric motors are mated to a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 is a high-tech, direct-injection engine that uses a twin-scroll, low-inertia turbocharger for exceptional responsiveness, performance, and fuel efficiency.
On the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe, the 400-volt, 17-kWh, 96-cell lithium-ion battery pack which uses nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) is mounted underneath the second-row seat, which its protected from outside elements.
Drive modes
Three drive modes are available on the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe, they include Hybrid, Electric, and eSave. Hybrid mode is the default mode that blends torque from the 2.0-liter engine and the electric motors. In this mode, the powertrain use battery power first, then add the internal combustion engine when the battery reaches a minimum state of charge.
Electric mode, just as the name implies operates on zero-emission electric power only until the battery reaches the minimum charge or the driver requests more torque before it engages the 2.0-liter engine.
In the eSave mode, power from the engine is used while saving the battery charge for later use such as EV off-roading or urban areas where combustion propulsion is restricted. The mode gives the driver options to choose from either Battery Save or Battery Charge during the eSAVE via the Hybrid Electric Pages in the Uconnect monitor.
The design
In EV mode, the off-road truck treads lightly and silently, conserving fuel, and allowing occupants to focus solely on the sights and full sounds of nature while also saving the planet.
The new Wrangler Willys 4xe employs a full-time 4WD system, front and rear heavy-duty Dana 44 axles, and a selec-Trac two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio. Extra grip and capability in low-traction situations such as driving over sand, gravel, snow, or ice are provided by a standard Trac-Lok rear slip differential.

Standard safety systems on the offroad truck include Selec-Speed Control with Hill-ascent and Hill-descent Control. This system aids the driver to control vehicle speed up and down steep, rugged grades with the transmission shift lever.
Other standard features include:
- Skid plates and front and rear blue tow hooks
- Aggressive 17-inch off-road black-painted wheels and LT255/75R17C mud-terrain tires
- Up to 30 inches (76 cm) of water fording
