The first generation Lamborghini Gallardo.
The production of the first generation Lamborghini Gallardo started in 2003 ahead of the 2004 model year. The engine bay was filled with a V10 engine that produces 493 horsepower at 750 RPM and a maximum torque of 450 RPM. The first generation featured two transmission variants which include a conventional [H-pattern] six-speed manual transmission and a more advanced six-speed electro-hydraulically actuated single-clutch automated manual transmission. The second variant was similar to a Formula One-style single-clutch sequential gearbox.
Gallardo was designed by Luc Donkerwolke. It was based on the 1995 Cala Prototype designed by Italdesign Giugiaro.
In 2005, Lamborghini introduced new changes in the production ahead of the 2006 model year. The reason for the changes was to counter criticism leveled against the company by the press and owners. The changes included a new exhaust system, the revised suspension, a new steering rack, the tuning of the engine to increase the power output to 513 horsepower, and the biggest change was the overall lowering of the gear ratio.
So many special editions were produced which included Lamborghini Concept S, Gallardo Spyder, Gallardo Superleggera, etc. Other special editions include Italian Police cars, London Metropolitan Police, Gallardo SE, Gallardo Nera, etc.
In 2008, the company carried out a significant update of the Gallardo. The model was unveiled at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, it was named Gallardo LP 560-4. The upgrades include a new V10 engine that produces 560 PS at 8,000 RPM and a torque of 6,500 RPM. The fuel injection featured an “Iniezione Diretta Stratificata” direct fuel injection system to improve its efficiency. The fuel consumption and C02 emission were reduced by 18%.
It featured two transmission variants which include 6-speed manual transmission or six-speed E-gear.
The base price for the 2009 model was pegged at $198,000 in the US.
