The production of Toyota Hilux started in March 1968 as RN10 in a short-wheelbase form with a 1.5 L inline-four engine. First-generation Hilux produced 76 hp. The 1.5 L engine was upgraded to a 1.6 L inline-four engine in 1971. This review will cover a brief history and price of Toyota Hilux in Nigeria. A long-wheelbase version was added to the model’s lineup in 1969.


Second generation Hilux debuted in 1972, it was designated the RN20, meaning Rocket Hilux. It was radically redesigned in 1975 to be larger and increased standard equipment was added.

Seventh generation Hilux
The production of the seventh generation started in August 2004 ahead of the 2005 model year. It was designated the AN10/AN20/AN30. This is one of the surviving pickup trucks in Nigeria now.
In September 2008, Toyota introduced the smart cab, a four-door with hidden rear suicide doors. Toyota adopted 3 transmission variants for the seventh generation Hilux, they include a 5-speed manual, 4-speed automatic, and 5-speed automatic.

Eight generation Toyota Hilux
The production of the eighth generation Hilux started in 2015 ahead of the 2016 model year. This generation featured a complete redesign. It was officially introduced simultaneously on 21 May 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand, and Sydney Australia.

As of October 5, the pickup trucks were available for sale at showrooms.
The facelifted Revo was unveiled at the 34th Thailand International Motor Expo on 30 November 2017. This edition featured a new big front grille styling similar to the North American market Toyota Tacoma and a new front bumper with LED fog lights.
In 2020, Toyota redesigned the 2021 Hilux, it featured a new front and everything on it was new. The body kit was upgraded.
