The New OLED system
2021 Escalade is debuting with the company’s first curved OLED displays that offer more than 38 inches total diagonal display area, that’s twice the pixel density of a 4K television. This technology was designed to deliver bold imagery, perfect blacks, and the largest color range of any automotive display in production.
The new OLED system is made up of three screens: a 7.2-inch-diagonal touch control panel driver information center to the driver’s left, a 14.2-inch-diagonal cluster display behind the steering wheel, and a 16.9-inch-diagonal Infotainment screen to the driver’s right. OLED is very thin to the extent its referred to as a paper thing. Its curvature positions the displays for optimal visibility.
Its color quality is very high, it eliminates the need for the common “hood” shrouding typical in-vehicle screen. This creates a brighter and less cluttered environment.
OLED is made up of different systems that perform different operations.
- Augmented Reality-enabled navigation: this system makes used of live street views with directional overlays to enhance driving directions.
- Surround Vision: This system is found in so many cars. It’s made up of four exterior cameras to provide a 2-megapixel bird’s eye view of the scene around the vehicle.
- Trailering Integration Package: This system is made of 9 camera views. It also includes an integrated trailer brake control and a trailering app that offers trailer profiles, tire pressure, and temperature monitoring, and an extended side blinds zone alert.
- Rear Camera Mirror: This shows the rear-facing camera view.
- Night Vision: it makes used of infrared technology to forward visibility. It can detect pedestrians and large animals.
- New Rear Seat entertainment: In Nigeria, we refer to this as a back seat DVD, but in this case, it is made up of a pair of 12.6-inch diagonal independent touch displays with navigation. It has streaming capability and you can play games, music, and videos through HDMI and USB inputs,
The interior
The OLED gives the interior a luxurious look. It’s made up of a mix of electronic control and physical switches that offer the intuitive operation of vehicle features. OLED touchscreen comes with a touch screen control while the interior also includes a full-feature rotary dial controller and steering wheel controls.
2021 Escalade comes with more than eight interior color options and trims. It includes unique seat designs, with a custom perforation and quilting patterns.
2021 Cadillac Escalade sound system
AKG is known worldwide for microphones and headphones used by leading recording studios and live venues. In other words, AKG is known for producing high-quality audio equipment.
This time, AKG is not producing microphones or other sound equipment for public use, they are producing a sound system for the luxurious 2021 Escalade. This is the first time the company is building music equipment for the auto industry.
The AKG audio technology consists of 36 speakers powered by three amplifiers that deliver 28 channels. This setup will give you the best listening experience ever.
The standard AKG Studio system consists of 19 speakers and a larger enclosed subwoofer that’s powered by a 14-channel amplifier.
Different systems make up the AKG sound system. I will list them below and give a brief description of each.
- Studio 3D Surround: This creates professional-level sound through the multichannel audio system, with strategically placed speakers.
- Conversation Enhancement: this new system is out of the world. The new 2021 Escalade is equipped with microphones that capture vehicle communication in the vehicle and reproduce it in the designated zone using the 36-speaker system.
- Audio Rendering for Navigation: it makes communicating with the car easier.
- Front Passenger Volume control: Passengers in the front seats can take charge of his or her personal audio experience by controlling it with dedicated volume control for each front seat.
Super Cruise
Super Cruise is a driving assistant that enables hands-free driving on more than 200,000 Miles of compatible highways in the United States and Canada. This can also be seen in the 2021 Hummer EV.
The system makes use of LiDAR map data, high-precision GPS, a state-of-the-art driver attention system, and a network of cameras and radar sensors.
2021 Escalade features an enhanced Super Cruise system with several new features and improvements. The new features include automated lane change. This feature allows the driver to direct the system to perform a single lane change using a turn signal to indicate the direction of the desired move.
Another mouth watery feature is the driver’s attention system, it keeps the driver engaged by detecting and signaling when drivers need to pay more attention to the road.
Dynamic Lane offset can adjust the Escalade slightly over in its lane for driver comfort when other vehicles are passing in a close range.
The Super Cruise is designed in a way that it will alert the driver when it may not work due to certain instances. I doubt if this system can work well in Nigeria.
The engine and power
2021 Cadillac Escalade is coming with a new 6.2L V-8 engine as standard. Its total power output is pegged at 420 horsepower. The new engine comes with variable Valve timing, stop/start and Dynamic Fuel Management technologies.
Another engine variant is the 3.0L turbo-diesel engine which is designed to produce strong torque across power band for confident performance and trailering capability. Its torque is pegged at 460 lb-ft.
Transmission
Both engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with electronic shift control.
