No, I’m not crazy buying an iPhone SE from 2016 in 2020. This is a completely deliberate acquisition. Apple recently announced its new version of the mobile operating system iOS 14, and I wondered what the smallest device from the world of the Apple manufacturer is capable of. Of course, the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 still exist, but with iOS 14 they are in flight.
And then everything turned out quite well: I went to Moscow for work, my friend had a useless iPhone SE of the first generation, and I had an extra 3,000 rubles. That’s how much I bought this device. I think that I am right.
Looking ahead, I will say that the device was updated to iOS 14, but did not leave it as the main system for several reasons. Probably when a more stable version of the OS comes out, I’ll tell you more.
Therefore, here – briefly about the Apple iPhone SE in 2020: how to live with such a tiny device by modern standards.

Appearance and usability
There is hardly a person who will refuse to use a compact phone. Another issue is in working with content: it must be consumed exclusively on large screens. But for calls, for simple operations with the system, for shopping trips and convenient payment, Apple Pay is a sweet thing.
TheApple iPhone SE specs and price in Pakistan still looks extremely attractive, albeit somewhat toy. To take him seriously does not work: the impression that he took the phone away from the child.
Of course, SE fits perfectly in the palm of your hand, you can easily reach anywhere on the gadget with your thumb, including the power button on the top.
Plus, the phone easily fits in any pocket. This is especially true in summer: you are wearing a T-shirt and shorts, there is nowhere to put your 6.5-inch smartphone, and then the iPhone SE comes to the rescue, which can hide in a pocket of any size. Also, do not forget about the minimum weight. This is also an important parameter.
However, here is the other side of the coin: putting the SE in your jeans or jacket pocket, you will have to look for the device for a long time 🙂
All in all, the 2016 iPhone still looks pretty and is very comfortable to use.
Screen
Let me remind you that the diagonal of this miracle is only 4 inches. I will indicate the resolution in PPI – that’s 326 dpi. If there are no problems with the resolution, then after several years of using large phones the 4-inch diagonal is quite shallow.
As I wrote above, for calls, for short messages, it’s a nice thing, but such a diagonal is not suitable for work in 2020. At least for me.
I think what the problem is, and so it is clear: it is difficult to hit the tiny symbols of the keyboard, it is uncomfortable to look at the photos, and it will not be possible to evaluate their quality.
Of course, there is also a significant plus: you reach any part of the screen with your thumb, holding the phone in one hand even in an upright position (lying down). This allows you to perform any manipulations with the iPhone SE a little more quickly if your other hand is busy (carrying a heavy bag, for example).
Battery
Well, that’s how you’re lucky since the device can be three years old at best. During this time, the battery will lose its capacity. In my case, the loss is 20%.
Therefore, the operating time of an already pretty dead battery comes out in the region of three hours of screen glow. Even with minimal interaction with the phone, it has to be charged two or even three times a day.
At the time of this writing, I am driving through the MCC from the office. Weak iPhone SE shows 25%. I took it off at about 8 am, then listened to music for about an hour and periodically corresponded on social networks.
Camera
I’m not sure if those who purchased (or will acquire) this unit thought about the camera. One here alone. And even at the time of the release of the iPhone, I shot extremely mediocre.
However, there is a great HDR mode here, macro comes out great. But it’s best to write a video on the SE since there is 4K at 30 fps and 1080p at 60 fps. Apple devices have always been great at saving videos. And here the gluing of panoramas works quite well – in case you need a simple analog of “shrink”.
iOS
Although I periodically used the Apple iPhone, by the nature of my activity I still had to deal with the Google Android OS with various proprietary shells.
Frankly, iOS is more pleasant in almost all respects than the competing OS: smooth animation, it is prettier, not torn, fonts are clear and even, the menu is simpler, there is logic everywhere.
But the closed nature of the system is a little annoying, especially when it comes to storing files. When files “fly away” on the iPhone, some applications do not see them. A simple example: save a picture from Yandex. Disk to iPhone, open Instagram, but he does not see this picture. It must be re-saved to “Images”.
I installed the iOS 14 system on the first generation Apple iPhone SE. But in this case, only 700 MB of memory remains on the phone. And this is without applications, photos, and videos. Almost all the space is occupied by “Other”, and it cannot be cleaned up.
With iOS 14, the battery lasts a little longer, the system is a little smoother. But most of the features of the 14th version do not work, for example, widgets.
Instead of a conclusion
Having bought the first generation Apple iPhone SE on the cheap, frankly speaking, it was right. Firstly, I experienced an unusual experience with such a small phone. Secondly, I remembered the experience of using iOS.
It’s not worth buying the first-generation SE now, well, except to play around. The price is now just in the region of 3,000 – 4,000 rubles. What kind of device will be lucky to buy – I don’t know: whether with a native matrix, in a native case, with a normal battery …
I would start experimenting with some iPhone 6S Plus, and if there is enough money, then with the 7 Plus.
